Important Notice: If you want SymCart to record orders placed on your site you must follow the instructions in Configuring WorldPay.
SymCart is a very simple and effective tool for building your own shopping system. SymCart allows you to add products to a catalogue, assign a look and feel to your catalogue and upload these files to your server so they can be accessed by anyone on the web.
The
first thing you need to do is select the look and feel of your site. Click the
look and feel icon and then the Choose template link for your store. This will
return a selection of available templates, choose the one that’s most suitable
to you. Then do the same for the basket. You can change these at any time. Next
enter the name for your store, this will be used as the header on some templates,
but more importantly it’s the name of the link to the store. That is when you
create the store using the build icon later, the first page of your store will
be called whatever you enter here.
Next
you are going to want to add products to your store. Click the products icon
and you will be taken to the products manager. To add a new product, click the
add button. The products entry screen is quite simple. If your store is using
categories you can select which category the new product should belong to from
the drop-down at the top, more on categories later.
You must provide a unique ID code for your product, this code can be anything
you like but it must be unique to this product. The title of the product is the
name that will be used as the link on most templates to the products details,
it is also the name that will appear in the basket and on the order. The product
description can be of any length and include HTML tags. To upload a picture of
your product, click the Browse button and locate the picture on your hard-drive.
The price of your product should be entered in your trading currency. To add
attributes click the add button, more on attributes later.
Repeat this process for all the products you wish to add.
This
done, you should check your sites settings. Click the settings icon and you will
be taken to the settings screen. Under the WorldPay settings you will see your
installation ID, you should confirm this is correct and for your trading currency,
select the currency you wish to trade in for the list.
The next two options in settings are for setting up the shipping and taxes to certain countries. Select the country name and enter the cost or tax in the box, then click the add button to assign the shipping cost or tax to the selected country.
The final option is the FTP settings, in here you tell SymCart how to upload the shopping files to your web space. Enter the name of your web site or URL you must link to FTP files to your site, in the host field. Then enter your username and password in their relevant fields. You must ensure these are entered correctly or SymCart will not be able to upload your site and will return an error.
Finally,
click the build icon, this will build a preview of your store which you can use
like you would if it was on a live web site. Everything from viewing the products,
adding them to the cart to making the purchase can be tested.
If you are happy with what you have done, click the Go Live button, this will transfer the store to the web site you entered in the FPT settings. This done you must ensure that your web site includes a link to your new store the link URL will be the name of the store you entered in Look and Feel with all spaces replaced with the '+' symbol and '.html' added to the end. For example if you called your store 'My Shop' the URL would be 'My+Shop.html'. Please note most servers are case sensitive so it is important to keep capitalisation the same.
It may be that you want to add a Basket button to your site. This is a very simple operation using Symcart and only requires you to pass it two pieces of information. They are your installation ID and web site URL. An example of a Basket button could be:
<form action="http://www.symcart.com/sbin/" method=post> <input type=hidden name="instId" value="12345"> <input type=hidden name="filesPath" value="http://www.yoursite.com/"> <input type=submit name="cmd" value="Basket"> </form>
Where 12345 is your installation ID and http://www.yoursite.com is the URL of your site. For an example of how you could use this in a web page, click here.
Creating a Checkout button for your site is very similar to the basket button above. Again we need to pass it two pieces of information, your installation ID and web site URL. However,as well as that we need to tell SymCart to go directly to the confirm page, we do this by setting the value of confirm to 100 and naming the button used to jump to the checkout, continue. An example of a Checkout button could be:
<form action="http://www.symcart.com/sbin/" method=post> <input type=hidden name="instId" value="12345"> <input type=hidden name="filesPath" value="http://www.yoursite.com/"> <input type=hidden name="confirm" value="100"> <input type=submit name="continue" value="Checkout"> </form>
Where 12345 is your installation ID and http://www.yoursite.com is the URL of your site. For an example of how you could use this in a web page, click here .
Go and log in to https://select.worldpay.com/wcc/admin
Next to your installed installation click on Configuration options
In Callback URL enter "http://www.symcart.com/callback.php" without the "
Then you need to tick the box next to Callback enabled and use callback response
Then save your changes.
Before your Worldpay account can be made live you will need to send Woldpay the test URL, you can also use this to test your store before making it live to check it works as you want it to.
If you go in to Build your Shopping System you will see the line
SymCart has created your new site, to preview it, click here
Click on the "Click Here" and a new page will open, from here you can test your store, if you copy the URL in the address bar in your browser you can then send that in full to Worldpay.
The test URL looks something like http://www.symcart.com/sites1/SymCart+Store.html
To add categories to your products catalogue, click the button marked Add next to the categories drop-down. Adding categories is very simple, simply enter the name of the category in the text area and click the Add button next to it.
Repeat this process for all the category titles you wish to add to your catalogue.
Please Note: If your catalogue has categories you must ensure all products are stored under a category or they will not be displayed.
FuturePay is the ability to take monthly payments (similar to a direct debit) from your shoppers credit card, this would be used for a subscription type service, if you have not already asked for FuturePay and will need it please contact support@uk.worldpay.com
To enter a FuturePay agreement, click the FuturePay link across from the product Price. The FuturePay screen is very simple. The initial payment is the amount of the first payment the shopper is to make. The regular payment is the amount the shopper is to pay thereafter. Payments can be made daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. The number of daily, weekly, monthly or yearly payments should be entered in the number of payments box. If the FuturePay item is something like a magazine subscription where you would like shipping and tax added to each monthly payment, check the box where instructed.
It is important to note that no price is displayed by SymCart for FuturePay agreements. It is therefore important that you fully detail the payment process in the description of your product.
SymCart treats FuturePay items differently from normal items, they will not be displayed in the normal shopping cart and only one FuturePay item can be processed at a time. This is to save confusion for users when purchasing the items as FuturePay items require a special agreement form to be completed, different to that of a normal purchase.
You can choose to add variations of your particular product, for example sizes or colours. To add an attribute click the Add button, this will be taken to the Attributes screen. Here you enter the name for your attribute, e.g. sizes. Next select the way you want the user to be able to choose the attribute. You may have either a basic text box where the user can enter some information, a collection of Radio buttons or a drop-down list.
For the latter options, you must enter the various choices the user can select from. To do this, click the Add button and on the screen that appears enter the name of the option and a cost. This cost is added to the price of the product. So, for example, if your product costs 10 pounds and this attribute option is for 2 pounds, if a user selects this product with this attribute it would cost them 12 pounds. You can also make attributes reduce the price of a product by putting a minus sign in front of the cost.
Repeat the above procedure for each option and each collection of attributes.
Please note if you are adding a new product and you selected to upload a picture, due to restrictions placed upon browsers regarding file upload security you will have to re-select the picture of the product before you click Save.
When someone completes an order using SymCart and you have the WorldPay callback set-up as described in configuring worldpay, an email is sent to shopper confirming their purchase. You can customise this email by editing the file orders.txt which is copied to your server when you Go Live.
The orders.txt file contains various place holders which are replaced by SymCart with the shoppers information. For a breakdown of what these place holders mean, click here . It is not necessary to include any of these place holders in your order.txt file, but if you do, you must ensure they appear exactly as they do in the breakdown.
SymCart provides the basic building blocks for creating your shopping system, but doesn't give you any way of styling the pages it creates. To do this you need a basic understanding of HTML, or access to a HTML editing program like Microsoft's front-page or Macromedias Dreamweaver.
In order to access the files for your shopping system, click the icon to build your store and then download your site to your computer.
You will notice that the download contains a compressed file, extract this file using a program such as WinZip, the extracted file contain a collection of files, .html, .tpl and .txt. The .html files contain the basic HTML for your shop, including the pages for each of your categories and all of your products. To customise these pages, simply load them into your HTML editor and format them as you see fit. Be careful not to alter any of the links or form fields as this could stop your shop from functioning correctly.
The .tpl files contain the HTML templates used by SymCart to format your shopping cart. There are four template files, these are:
You can load each of these into your HTML editor and format them as you like. Remembering that a copy of cartitems.tpl and confirmitems.tpl will be used for each product added to the cart.
You will notice that these templates have place holders dotted around in the format of {COMMAND}. These tell SymCart where to enter the relevant information. You should ensure that these are not altered.
When you have finished customising the files, upload them to your web site and SymCart will take on the appearance of the rest of your site.
Important Notice: SymCart uses the Host Name in FTP Settings as the address of your site, ensure you have entered this and prefixed it with www.
SymCarts Virtual Terminal is an easy way for you to take phone and mail orders. In order to use the VT you must ensure that you have entered your Installation ID and selected your default trading currency in the Settings.
The Virtual Terminal requires only a few settings to process a transaction. These are a description of the transaction, the Receipt ID which is the ID that will show up on the WorldPay receipt and the payment value which is the amount due.
The online invoice link is automatically emailed to you shoppers with each sale you do, it allows them to print off an invoice from your company and will display your companies details, see our example
http://www.symshop.com/cart/invoice.php?ID=23791793
All you need to do is go to settings then On-line Invoice and enter the company name and address to appear on the invoice (This can be HTML formatted if you have a specific design in mind) and if VAT registered click the box and enter your VAT/TAX number, customers will then get a TAX receipt or NO TAX depending on your choice.
